Looking after your earrings
925 sterling silver jewellery will naturally tarnish over time. The fact this happens to our earrings indicates that our jewellery is made of 925 sterling silver.
One of the most common reasons this natural reaction happens is due to exposure to daily products such as shower gels, shampoos, perfumes.
Another reason 925 sterling silver jewellery can blacken is due to the slightly acidic pH of our skin so jewellery can tarnish at different rates depending on who is wearing it and how acidic their skin levels are.
Earrings will also be more susceptible to tarnishing due to the fact they are placed in piercings ie inside your body.
The best way to keep your jewellery looking new is to avoid water, sweat and cosmetics.
Cleaning your jewellery regularly can help to keep it sparkling. You can purchase silver cleaning polish or make your own cleaner at home which will help to remove any tarnish.
Home made silver cleaning recipe:
Mix up bicarbonate of soda with some slightly warm water until it forms a paste.
Put the paste onto your jewellery and leave for 2 minutes. Use a paper towel or microfibre towel to softly rub and wipe the paste off.
Rinse with cold water and dry.
Make sure you don’t use any rough scrubbing cloths which could damage or scratch your items.
